The Sherwood Motocross circuit proved once again to be a happy hunting ground for Elliott Banks-Browne and the Geartec Husqvarna team, as he stormed to a 1-1 in the Pro MX1 class in round 4 of the MX Nationals on Sunday.
Having achieved the same feat at the Nottinghamshire venue in 2017 there was an air of optimism under the Geartec awning and it proved to be warranted as Elliott showed his lightning speed from the get go with a sub 1.40 time in qualifying to place him on pole for the two moto’s to follow.
A Moto one holeshot plunged EBB into the lead, and that’s where he stayed with a comfortable gap for the remainder of the race.
In Moto 2 it was more of the same without the holeshot, although by the end of the first lap Elliott was out in front again and he pulled clear at the head of the field for another comfortable race win and the overall.
With 6 points now pulled back on the previously unbeaten championship leader Jake Nicholls, the title race is well and truly on with two rounds of the series remaining with Elliott just 18 points behind his rival.
Paul Mason – Team Manager
“That’s the best I have seen Elliott ride for a long time. We went to Sherwood with a positive attitude, started off with the pole and just carried that momentum throughout the day. We had the perfect day and have closed the gap on Jake now. It was a big achievement.”
Elliott Banks-Browne
“It was an all-round good weekend. This is the first meeting I have won this year with that level of competition. I felt good and I’ll try and carry that momentum through to the rest of the year now. Last year Sherwood was the turning point for me and it’s the same again this year. I feel like we are going to the races to win. Before there was a bit of a gap to that, but now I feel fit and we have the set up to win races. The track was rough and gnarly, but they did a good job with the track and with the watering. We changed a lot on the bike, and gone back to last year’s engine settings with some modifications and its working real well. I just feel real comfortable on it, and I am riding better, my wrist is better and we went into the weekend confident after winning there last year and we got the job done.”
The next round of the MX Nationals is on the 14th and 15th July at Canada Heights but before then Elliott rides in a local evening race at Wattisfield Hall on Wednesday 4th July.
